Jokowi Condemns Violence in Palestine, Cites Law Violation.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has issued a powerful statement condemning the recent surge in violence in Palestine, asserting that the actions taken constitute clear violations of international law. His firm stance underscores Indonesia’s unwavering commitment to justice and peace in the region.

Jokowi’s condemnation comes amidst rising international concern over the escalating conflict, which has resulted in significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction. He emphasized that the targeting of innocent civilians, including women and children, is unacceptable and a blatant disregard for basic human rights and international norms.

In his statement, Jokowi explicitly cited violations of international humanitarian law, particularly the principles of proportionality and distinction. He stressed that the use of excessive force and the indiscriminate targeting of civilian infrastructure are indefensible and demand immediate accountability.

Jokowi called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint. He emphasized the urgent need for a de-escalation of tensions and the resumption of meaningful dialogue to address the root causes of the conflict. He reiterated Indonesia’s support for a just and lasting solution based on the two-state principle, in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions.

Furthermore, Jokowi called upon the international community, including the United Nations Security Council, to take concrete steps to address the crisis and ensure the protection of Palestinian civilians. He stressed the importance of providing humanitarian assistance to those affected by the violence and holding accountable those responsible for violations of international law.

Indonesia, as a nation with a long-standing commitment to Palestinian rights, has consistently advocated for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Jokowi’s strong condemnation reflects the deep-seated solidarity of the Indonesian people with the Palestinian cause and their unwavering support for a just and lasting peace.

The timing of Jokowi’s statement is particularly significant, coming at a critical juncture in the conflict. His words add to the growing international pressure on all parties to adhere to international law and work towards a peaceful resolution. His statement also amplifies the need for international bodies to act decisively in ending the current cycle of violence.
